Get on the Road to Safe Driving...

Selecting a Driver's Education company to meet your driver training needs is a very important decision that will impact the rest of a student's driving career.

Let me tell you why 1st Gear Driving, Inc. is the best choice  to meet your needs...

1st Gear Driving, Inc. is a NH certified Driving School, licensed by the Department of Safety, and is a trustworthy and reliable company.  I have been teaching driver's education in Amherst for 6+ years now.  My school is in its 4th year of operation, & in my tenure as a driver's ed teacher, I have probably worked with close to 3,000 students.  I am happy to say that 1st Gear Driving, Inc. is a family run business with a team of fully certified instructors, and an excellent reputation here in Amherst & all throughout the entire Southern New Hampshire area.  We have three 5-star safety rated vehicles.

At 1st Gear Driving, Inc. we strive to be flexible and professional while meeting your family's individual driving needs.  We have our classroom training location centrally located in Amherst, NH.  We also have a variety of schedules to select from; including night classes, after-school classes, and weekend classes.  In addition, we pick up and drop off our students for all of their driving hours to make it more convenient for you. (If you are from further away, we may need to work together on transportation to accomplish that goal, as that can present quite a challenge.)  Our #1 commitment is always to provide the best level of client satisfaction that we can achieve, while putting our students on the lifelong road to safe driving...

Thank you in advance for doing business with me!

About our Program

COURSE DETAILS

Course includes:

  • 30 hours of classroom (please note that the students are only allowed to miss 2 classes, or 4 hours, per state regulations);

  • 10 hours of driving;

  • 6 hours of observing;

  • We pick up & drop off students for all of their driving appointments &

  • One free follow-up lesson, as I want to be able to continue to work with them down the road.

The driving commitment for the students once they are enrolled is 2 - 4  hours per week of driving/observing with the instructor. All students need to plan on this. If there are conflicts, we always try to work around them as we are able.

The students are also required to have 40 hours of driving time with their parents, 10 of which have to be night hours, prior to taking their Driver's Test.

PARENT ORIENTATION

On the first night or day of class, one parent is required to attend with their teen. The parent must bring:

  • any paperwork not already mailed (registration and rules sheet)

  • balance of tuition

    • 2011 Tuition Cost: $625.00 per student. The balance (less the registration deposit) is due at the first class. I am currently running a promotion where the tuition is $600.00 if you pay in full prior to the class start date. I do offer the option to pay as you go (on an as needed basis), as long as the balance is paid by the end of the class. Please discuss this with me ahead of time if you'd like to utilize this option.  A $50 deposit is required to reserve a class space due to a 30 student maximum per class; students are NOT fully registered until this deposit is received. (see How to Register menu for more details).

    • 2011 Tuition Cost for High Mowing School students:  $600.00 per student.  Payment In Full is due on or prior to the first class.  Non-HMS students will be able to attend these classes depending on availability.  (Amherst rates and $50 deposit will apply to all non-HMS students.)

  • a copy of the birth certificate for me to keep with the student's files

  • the original birth certificate for me to view (I need to verify that I've seen the seal on them).
